Overview

On June, 23 2023, the Lead Partner of the SMARPORT Project - the Port Network Authority of the Ionian Sea - in collaboration with the Order of Engineers of Taranto organized the training course “Energy Management for the energy transition.

The course for energy managers was held in Taranto, at the Conference Hall of the Order of Engineers of Taranto, and was structured into two different training sessions: the first session was dedicated to energy scenarios and legislation, energy analysis and energy measurement systems (EnMS); the second session was dedicated to energy consumption measurements and environmental product assessment tools by using a life cycle approach (LCA). For both sessions, the speakers were Mr. Umberto Berardi, Full Professor at the Polytechnic of Bari and Director of the Canadian BeTOP Lab, and Mr. Roberto Stasi, Ph.D. at the Polytechnic of Bari.

This action aimed to increase the skills of the Public Administration in reducing energy waste and/or in replacing the use of fossil fuels with renewable energy sources. Thanks to this training course, local energy managers were raised about professional standards of energy managers, energy management best practices, and environmentally-friendly image in the field.

The SMARTPORT Project aims to improve the energy profile of the southern Adriatic and Ionian ports by introducing eco-sustainable LED lighting systems and adopting new and efficient energy strategies which, following European standards, combine the use of renewable energy sources, energy-saving technologies, energy storage, and smart grid.
